Fanboy
Novacon 37 was a good con, apparently one of the best in recent years, but one thing it certainly wasn't was a haven for fanzines. I was given just one throughout the con (Banana Wings, naturally) and, given I've been out of the loop for a while and wouldn’t be singled out to receive any, I didn't even hear of any others... Sorry, Dave, I'm not counting Ansible here.
Now Novacon is a SF con, and not a specifically fannish con, but that is one of the reasons I decided to dip my toe back into the water - to meet fans. Even allowing for all the familiar faces it was disappointing to see no zines at he con, and looking at the Nova voting sheets there were that many either.
There’s a whole range of issues here: cost of printing zines, electronic zines, eFanzines, prevalence of blogging and on-line journals etc. Things are changing in fandom – certainly paper fanzines are getting as thin in the air as the hair of those who produce them. As old phart fans, no matter how enlightened we think we are, change is viewed as bad. I must say I’m one of those people and feel a little sad.
Maybe it is time for a Redux in Götterdämmerung to become more official.

NovaCon 37
Enjoyed meeting everyone there - yes, it has been that long! But mixed feelings overall at being back at the convention. some of the reasons I no longer go, have also gone. But enough of them remain that I'm not sure I'll be back.
Yes, at least there is a fanzine article in it..!
An huge apologies to Martin Tudor, who I left in the lurch on Sunday night, after offering him a room to crash.

Novacon this weekend
Off to this weekend Novacon 37 - my first British con in nearly ten years.
After Götterdämmerung Redux came out a few weeks ago, I took Leslie and myself off to Canada - ostensibly to celebrate our fifth wedding anniversary. In reality it was look back on my year there - in 1997 - which also saw the demise (effectively) of Götter. Novacon was always one of my favourite cons and it is also celebrating 75 years of British cons - a nice happenstance.
So, let’s see what has happened in the last few years.
